It is literally half the cost compared to ordering from the campus bookstore or grad div. I can't really imagine bookstore representatives from my UC bookstore making that offer. “I received the regalia on Wednesday, April 19th, and I'm happy with it. One of the hood buttons came off but it was easy to put back on. I like the material of the body a great deal more than the "official" one. UC Regents wanted a "shiny" material and used a material that I though had less body and looked cheaper (and to get the heavier material would have been another additional charge). It fits well also. The only real difference I see is that this gown has velveteen instead of velvet. I was wondering about the string for the button on the front of the hood. I thought maybe that could have been sewn on the inside seam instead.

I'm happy that there was another alternative to ordering from UC. It would have cost me the same amount to get the plain black robe with velveteen (the ones they use as rentals) with the tam and hood as it cost for this one that is the UC colors made with better material, the nicer sleeves, the hidden zipper and the piping (that really adds to the whole effect).   The additional "free" gold bullion tassel looks so much like the UC one and that alone saved me $42. I really wanted the UC colored gown but had decided I couldn't afford it at $800+--I'm glad there was another alternative.

The regalia was both elegant and beautifully designed.
